This smoky mezcal rendition of a margarita comes from our friend David Baldwin, Co-founder of Ponysaurus Brewing in Durham, North Carolina.
Watermelon Mezcalrita
Makes one cocktail
- 2 oz mezcal
- 2 oz puréed watermelon
- 1/2 oz Ancho Reyes
- 1/4 oz Ancho Reyes Verde
- 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
- 1/2 oz agave
- 2 dashes El Guapo® Fuego Bitters
- Mint leaves
- TajÃn spice, for rim
Before creating cocktail, purée chunks of watermelon using a standard or hand blender. In a clean shaker, add mezcal and mint and gently muddle together. Strain into a separate clean shaker. Add remaining ingredients to the shaker, add ice and shake until well chilled. Rim a margarita glass in water and dip into tajìn spice. Pour shaken margarita into the rimmed glass (use a strainer to serve up instead of on the rocks!) Garnish with a tajìn-spice dusted watermelon before serving. Cheers!
