El Guapo Old Fashioned. Chicory Pecan Old Fashioned Cocktail

If you want a rich, complex twist on a true classic, this Chicory Pecan Old Fashioned is it. The recipe leans on the flavors that built New Orleans. It is lush. It is layered. Bartenders swear by and grandmothers hoard our Chicory Pecan Bitters for a reason.

This cocktail was created by Chris Hannah at French 75. He is a New Orleans legend with impeccable taste. The blend of chicory, pecan and amaro gives you deep flavor with a little Southern grit. It is the Old Fashioned you pour when you want to impress someone. Even if that someone is you.

The Story Behind the Cocktail

This drink was born at Arnaud’s in the French Quarter. The goal was simple. Take a classic Old Fashioned and give it the soul of New Orleans. Chicory and pecan nod to our culinary roots. The amaro adds herbal depth. The result is a cocktail with serious flavor and no artificial anything.

Tips For The Perfect Old Fashioned With Amaro

  • Use a large ice cube. It melts slowly and keeps the drink tight.

  • Stir instead of shaking. Spirits stay clear and silky.

  • Use a fresh orange twist. The oils matter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an Old Fashioned and a Manhattan?

An Old Fashioned uses a base spirit, sugar and bitters. A Manhattan uses vermouth and bitters. The amaro in this recipe brings depth without pulling it out of Old Fashioned territory.

Why use orgeat and amaro in an Old Fashioned?

Orgeat adds nutty sweetness and body. Amaro brings herbal complexity that balances the bourbon. Together they create a layered and elegant drink.

Can I use other types of whiskey?

Yes. Rye will bring more spice. Another bourbon will shift it sweeter. Play and taste.
