Frequently Asked Questions

What is tonic cocktail syrup?

A tonic cocktail syrup is a concentrated form of tonic water, made with quinine and other botanicals. It is used to create a tonic beverage by simply mixing it with soda water. Using a syrup allows you to control the level of bitterness and sweetness in your drink, giving you a more customized flavor than bottled tonic water.

What does the Fear of Sunrise Cocktail taste like?

The Fear of Sunrise Cocktail is a balanced drink with a complex flavor profile. It starts with the botanical notes of gin and the bittersweet taste of tonic and Campari. The addition of blood orange juice provides a vibrant citrus flavor, while the beet juice adds a subtle earthy sweetness and a deep red color, making it both delicious and visually stunning.

Why is beet juice used in this recipe?

Beet juice is used in this recipe for both flavor and color. It gives the drink a deep, rich red color that perfectly fits the Halloween theme. In terms of flavor, it adds a subtle earthy sweetness that complements the bitterness of the Campari and the tartness of the blood orange juice.

How is a tonic syrup different from tonic water?

Tonic cocktail syrup is a concentrated syrup, while tonic water is a finished, carbonated beverage. The syrup contains all the flavor agents without the carbonation, giving you more control over your drink's final taste and effervescence. You can use the syrup with club soda or sparkling water to create your own customized tonic.
