Yields: 1 cocktail

Ingredients:

El Guapo x @the.sauceress

  • 1 oz white rum
  • .75 oz blue curaçao
  • .5 oz coconut liqueur
  • .25 oz lime juice
  • 1.5 oz unsweetened coconut milk
  • 8-10 dashes El Guapo™ Summer Berries Bitters
  • Strawberry Ice Cubes (recipe below)

Instructions:

  1. Combine the rum, coconut liqueur, coconut milk, and lime juice. Stir to mix together and set aside.
  2. Pour the blue curaçao into the bottom of a pint or collins glass.
  3. Fill the glass entirely with crushed or nugget ice.
  4. Slowly pour in the coconut and rum mixture to create the white layer.
  5. Top the drink off with a generous amount of strawberry ice cubes.
  6. Dash El Guapo™ Summer Berries Bitters onto the ice as a float. Stir gently before enjoying.

Strawberry Ice Cubes:

Clean, remove tops from, and dice one pound of strawberries. Purée them in a blender with 2 tablespoons of white sugar or agave. Pour the purée into an ice cube tray of your choice and freeze overnight. This recipe makes enough ice for approximately six drinks.

 Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the layers for a patriotic cocktail?

Layering in cocktails relies on the specific gravity of the liquids. Heavier, denser liquids (like blue curaçao with high sugar content) are poured in first. The lighter liquids (like the coconut and rum mixture) are then slowly poured over ice to sit on top of the heavier layer.

What do Summer Berries Bitters taste like?

El Guapo™ Summer Berries Bitters offer a vibrant, tart, and slightly sweet flavor profile, with dominant notes of strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry. They are designed to complement a wide range of spirits and mixers without overpowering them.

Can I make this patriotic cocktail ahead of time?

It is best to assemble this cocktail right before serving to maintain its distinct layers. However, you can prepare the strawberry ice cubes in advance, and the rum/coconut mixture can be pre-batched and stored in the refrigerator until you are ready to pour.
