Flavor Profile: Complex and Aromatic

This beer punch is a masterpiece of layered flavors. The fresh plum juice provides a rich, fruity sweetness that is brightened by the zesty, citrusy notes of the yuzu and orange juice. The gin offers a clean botanical base, while the cinnamon sticks, cloves, and El Guapo™ Holiday Pie Bitters add a warm, spiced undertone. The saison ale provides a crisp, slightly yeasty finish that cuts through the sweetness and ties all the elements together.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a beer punch?

A beer punch is a mixed drink served in a large bowl or pitcher that uses beer as one of its primary ingredients. It often combines a spirit, fruit juices, and other mixers to create a flavorful, shareable cocktail.

Can I use a different kind of beer for this punch?

Yes, a saison ale is recommended for its crisp, spicy notes, but you can experiment with other beers. A light lager or even a wheat beer could work, but be mindful that the flavor will change. Avoid dark or very bitter beers, as they may overpower the other ingredients.

What is yuzu liqueur and can I substitute it?

Yuzu is a Japanese citrus fruit with a flavor profile similar to a blend of lemon, grapefruit, and mandarin. Yuzu liqueur adds a bright, aromatic sweetness. If you can’t find it, you can substitute it with a mix of fresh lemon and grapefruit juice, though the flavor will not be as concentrated.

How do you make fresh plum juice?

To make fresh plum juice, simply blend two pitted plums with half a cup of water until smooth. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove any solids before using it in the cocktail.
