Tajin Margarita Recipe: The Ultimate Spicy Mezcal Margarita

If you haven’t had a Tajin Margarita, you haven’t lived! This spicy mezcal margarita is a true culinary and cocktail masterpiece, and it's our favorite way to use Tajin on a margarita rim. The smoky notes of the mezcal, the zesty citrus, and the bold kick from our bitters create a drink that is both savory and spicy. Lucky for us, our friend Rhonda agrees that a Tajin margarita recipe is the way to go.

Two margaritas rimmed with Tajin with dehydrated lime garnishes in front of potted cacti and a bottle of El Guapo Lime Cordial.

What Makes This a Spicy Mezcal Margarita?

The secret to this cocktail’s fiery kick is a combination of two key elements: the El Guapo™ Fuego Bitters and the Tajin rim. While the Tajin provides a signature blend of chili, salt, and dehydrated lime, our Fuego Bitters add a deep, natural heat that enhances the smoky character of the mezcal. This harmonious blend of flavors makes it a perfectly balanced spicy mezcal margarita that is both exciting and easy to drink.

How to Make the Tajin Margarita Recipe

Creating this drink is simple, but the key is in the preparation of the rim.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Tajin?

A: Tajin is a popular Mexican seasoning made from a simple blend of mild chili peppers, dehydrated lime, and sea salt. It has a distinctive savory, tangy, and slightly spicy flavor that's perfect for fruits, vegetables, and cocktail rims.

Q: What is the difference between mezcal and tequila?

A: Both mezcal and tequila are made from agave, but mezcal can be made from over 30 different types of agave, while tequila can only be made from blue agave. The main difference in flavor comes from the production process; mezcal is traditionally cooked in earthen pits, which gives it a characteristic smoky flavor that is not present in most tequilas.

Q: What are Fuego Bitters?

A: El Guapo™ Fuego Bitters are a type of chili bitters designed to add a layered, spicy heat to cocktails. They are crafted with real chili peppers and other botanicals to provide a complex flavor that is more nuanced than simple hot sauce.
